  • Toronto Airport

    July 28th, 2014

    July 28, 2014
    10:38pm

We made it out of Cleveland and are stalled in the beautiful Toronto Airport. The building is beautiful and well-equipped. Lots of duty free shopping and lots of outlets for charging devices. That’s where we’re parked at the moment – a food/charging cafe called Fetta Panini Bar. The only thing missing is reliable wifi!

The international terminal in any airport is always interesting and YYX’s is no exception. Many different people from many different backgrounds all with a common goal – as is in most of life! But here in an international terminal, that fact is very clear.

And so the honeymoon commences. We are hoping for a bump up to first class as a wedding gift from Air Canada – we will see!

We leave for our honeymoon in less than 24 hours and I am ecstatic! (Shane is at work so he’s less ecstatic right now but come midnight tonight, look out!) Sadie wants to come too…but she’ll be off to Camp Grandpa for fun of her own!

  • More on Ireland…

    July 7th, 2014

Since last we shared about our Irish progress (does that involve whiskey? maybe Guiness?) we’ve made a few decisions…

    1) We are planning to take the Wild Wicklow Tour to Glendalough. It’s only $38/person so I think it will be worth it for all it includes (Short City tour; Coastal drive past Dun Laoghaire Harbor (which is where we will pick up the tour), Dalkey and Killiney; Avoca Handweavers; Glendalough; Pub Lunch; Sally Gap Adventure). I’m not a fan of bus tours, having spent 30 days on one the first time I traveled to Europe, but it seems as though this is our best option. It’s got great reviews on Trip Advisor too!

    2) We have really debated the best way to see some non-Dublin sites in the most efficient way because we only have 4.5 days. The solution we’ve come up with is a ride on the DART light rail system from our home base in Dun Laoghaire to both Howth and Malahide. The ride will take us all around the Irish Sea inlet near Dublin and should provide for some pretty great views.

  • England

    June 20th, 2014

As compared to my comfort level with Ireland, I am feeling pretty good about our jaunt through England. I’ve been twice, but more importantly, it’s the mother land – literally! My mom and her family are from England and emigrated here in the late 1960s. What’s really great about that is she still has a lot of family there. One branch we are particularly close with live in the Weston-super-Mare area, so we’ll be starting our time in England on the west coast.

  • Ireland

    June 14th, 2014

Our first destination is Ireland – the country we know the least about! Shane and I both have Irish roots via our paternal grandfathers so we both had dreams of visiting the Emerald Isle, but still know very little about what to do, where to go, etc.

We are starting in Dublin when we first arrive. As I mentioned in the previous post, we are staying in Dun Laoghaire (Dun Leery), a suburb of Dublin, because Rick Steves recommended it as a home base – and it’s cheaper than staying in the city. There is a light rail system (the DART) that will take us right into the city, and a bus (Air Coach) that will take us right to our hotel from the Dublin Airport. Winner Winner!

Our Dublin-area stay will be four days, then another half day at the end of the trip. We’ve read that the city doesn’t take much time, so now we’ll have time to branch out. So far we’re thinking… (more…)

  • Honeymoon 2014

    June 9th, 2014

Hello! I’m Alison and I’ll be the Brennen blogging most frequently. My husband of eight and a half months and I are in the process of planning our honeymoon to Ireland and England – and could not be more excited about it! I’m a teacher so we knew that getting married in September would limit our honeymoon opportunities, but thankfully, after a number of failed attempts, we have been rewarded with a fabulous adventure!
