Lovely as the Week 25 update was, I completely neglected two of the best gifts we’ve gotten so far… first, the Edwards clan sent me a box of love – with treats and comfort galore! We dug into it pretty quick and I neglected to take a picture so you’ll just have to imagine how wonderful it was!
We also got the most amazing onesie from Auntie Emmy:

This week wrapped up summer and started another school year.
At the end of Week 23, we (Eugene and I) had our first shopping trip with Grammy Ronda. Shane and I went with her to Buy Buy Baby to show her all of the stuff we’ve picked out – and got some Grammy wisdom about some items we weren’t sure about. Along the way we discovered that she is an expert at folding up pack and plays – mommy and daddy got a lesson in the aisle! We have pretty much finalized everything on the registries except a rocker/recliner that will work for Shane and Eugene. Life is complicated when you’re married to a former offensive lineman 😂. Anyway, we had a fabulous day out and Mommy and baby got some goodies! EDIT: Shane says he doesn’t read our posts – RUDE! So now I’m going to start planting little nuggets in here – if he sees them, he wins. If he doesn’t, I win. Not sure of the prize but it’ll be quite the game! 🤦♀️
Baby Eugene has had a busy week!
We started Week 23 with a family picnic in Madison (see Mama’s terrible bump picture from that day below…terrible as in you can’t see the bump! 😂). He got to meet lots of cousins and I got to eat some more shrimp! (Don’t worry – all in moderation – I think that’s the 4th time I’ve eaten them and they’ve been cooked each time! 😊🦐) Baby Eugene slept through most of the party… I’m pretty sure he’s a night owl because he sure does love kicking me all night long!
Another difficult week, only this time it’s been fighting the urge to text or call or tell my dad about Eugene kicking and punching up a storm! Or about my doctor’s appointment and how kind she was to me – and how great my blood pressure was! Or how wonderful it was to have so much family around for so long and how it made the first days bearable.
Sigh.
This is the text of the eulogy that Emily and I wrote to our daddy for his funeral services on August 4, 2017:
It’s been a terribly sad week. We lost our dad on Tuesday, August 1. I’m so thankful that he knew Eugene and that Eugene will know how loved he was/is! I’m honestly really struggling right now with grieving and with being happy – it’s very hard to find a balance. And I’m feeling very selfish. My dad was in terrible pain for six months and I’m wishing him back. 😔 I’m also so very sad that he and my mom will not be here to love on Eugene. I am, however, thrilled that they are finally reunited. I know being away from her hurt him for many years, so I’m grateful for that. And wishing they were here instead.
Not a ton to report, or that I feel like reporting. Baby is definitely growing, as Mama is quite uncomfortable. Another horrible week outside of baby land.
Baby is the size of a banana.
When my dad gave us the baby’s in utero name, we laughed and ran with it. A few nights later, he was singing a song to himself about Eugene – we definitely just thought he was being silly. Turns out – it’s a real song! He saw a band – Pink Martini – on the David Letterman show years ago sing a song called “Hey Eugene”. It’s weird – but it’s also catchy! You’re welcome!
This week was super eventful! We had three exciting events: we found out that Eugene is officially a Eugene, not a Eugenie, had our anatomy ultrasound, and he got to go to his first concert!
I wrote another post about it, but we had our gender reveal right at the 19 week mark and found out that we are having a boy! It’s so strange to know that I’m not only growing a baby, but that I am growing my son! I’m not sure why that’s so strange for me – especially given everything we’ve been through to get to this point – but it is mind blowing!
